THANKSGIVING: A TRUE CELEBRATION By Tammy Glover

“Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.”  Psalm 95:2 NIV

Thanksgiving is often an overlooked holiday.  A lot of people don’t see much use for it.  They merely mark it as a day to gobble down rich foods and watch football games and the parade.  It’s only something to usher in the Christmas season and of course holiday shopping sprees.  They don’t stop to think about what Thanksgiving truly means.  Webster’s dictionary defines thanksgiving as “the act of giving thanks; a means of expressing thanks as by prayer or celebration.”

Thanksgiving should not just be another holiday.  It shouldn’t be just another day that we quickly say grace over our dinners, so that we can get on to what we think are more important things.  Giving thanks is one of the most important things we can do.  The first Thanksgiving day was a day that the Puritans took time out to thank God not just for their bountiful harvest, but for being with them during an extremely difficult time in their lives.

I know that some of you are going through difficult times in your lives now.  You may not be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.  you might think that you don’t have anything to be thankful for.  This is just another holiday that is going to cause you stress and empty your wallets.  Let me just tell you that if you are still breathing, you have a reason to be thankful.  God has given you another day to see Him in action.  Every stress and struggle is a new opportunity to see God work a miracle in your life.  Every tear you cry and every heartbreak you experience is an opportunity to feel His hand on you.  The fact that you’re still standing means that God still has plans for your life.  If you trust and lean on Him, He will lead you to infinite blessings.  Don’t you dare let this Thanksgiving Day go by without truly taking time out to say thank you.

Give thanks for that family member who is getting on your nerves, God is giving you grace and He is teaching you patience to deal with them.  Give thanks for that person who hurt you, God is giving you a chance to forgive, just like He has forgiven you.  Give thanks for those doors that God has closed, He closed them because He has a better door open down the hall.  Give thanks for the negative balance in your bank account because God is getting ready to multiply.  Let guide be the centerpiece of your table this Thanksgiving.  Have a blessed Thanksgiving day, everyone!

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” Psalm 107:1

I just want to take time out to give a special thank you to everyone who has encouraged and challenged me.  Thank you to everyone who reads this blog.  I pray that God blesses each and every one of you.

  1. This was awesome… Some of the things you’ve said my Pastor touched on them yesterday. We should not only say thank you but give God thanks by giving Him all the glory, honor and praise.
